When are the school holidays in Birmingham 2026/27?
Across the school year, 5 of Birmingham's breaks have a published return date and add up to 60 days off. That count includes weekends and leaves out the summer holidays — there is no return date for that break until the next year's calendar is published. The longest break is Easter Holidays, at 17 days.
Birmingham City Council publishes term and holiday dates for the schools for which it is responsible across the city.
Individual schools also schedule inset or staff-training days, which can affect the exact day pupils return even when the school broadly follows the Council calendar.
Academies, free schools and some other schools can set their own term dates, so use the Council calendar as a guide and confirm important dates with the school itself.
How Birmingham differs from the other areas we cover
Councils set their own calendars, so the same holiday can fall in a different week a few miles away. These dates differ from those in at least one other area we cover.

Inset days can change the pupil return date
A school's staff-training days can sit at the beginning or end of a term. That means the Council term date and the first day pupils are expected back are not always identical. If a one-day difference matters, check the school's own calendar or messages from the school.
These are the dates Birmingham City Council sets for the schools it maintains. Academies, free schools and foundation schools publish their own calendar and can differ — always check with your child's school before you rely on a date.
