Why school holiday dates can differ

England does not use one national set of school term dates. Local authorities publish dates for the schools for which they are responsible, while academies, free schools and some other schools can set their own calendars.

That means two nearby schools can have slightly different term starts, inset days or holiday dates. A council calendar is a useful local reference, but the individual school remains the final source for the dates that apply to its pupils.

DAYREACH keeps each supported area separate, links to the source used for its dates and shows when that source was last checked. If you are booking travel, childcare or annual leave, it is sensible to confirm the exact dates with the school as well.
