Why the first day back can differ
England does not have one national return date. Local authorities publish dates for the schools for which they are responsible, while academies, free schools and some other schools can set their own calendars.
Inset or staff-training days can also affect the day pupils actually return. A school's term may officially begin on one date while pupils return after an inset day, so the individual school calendar is the final check.
The table below shows the term-start dates published for the areas DAYREACH covers. If a one-day difference matters for childcare, travel or work, confirm the pupil return date with the school itself.
Check the full school year
Each area page also lists the half terms and longer school holidays we have recorded for that academic year, together with the source and the date it was last checked.
